As a child Robert Craig grew up in Northwestern Pennsylvania on the shores of Lake Erie. Familiar with boats from an early age, Robert realized that conventional small boats needed to be vastly improved. He asked himself, “What if I could design a small boat that had big boat characteristics, like side-by-side comfortable seating?” Robert set out to create a small boat that would bring both the qualities and capabilities of a large boat, but offer the portability and cost only found in a small craft. The idea seemed totally out of reach, and it became Robert’s passion to solve the problem. Through decades of pursuit, commitment, and trial and error, Robert created a highly innovative and revolutionary design — the Craig Horizontal Catamaran.
In 1990, Robert and Evana Craig founded Craig Catamaran Corporation in Orlando, Florida, for the purpose of production and sales of the new design. Years of hard work and sacrifice from the Craig family went into the business of the CraigCat. After their son, Erik, graduated from Aeronautics school, he joined CraigCat and became a very important part of the family business. Today, some 36 years later, the same three family members are still working together daily, and manufacturing the finest small boats in the world – The CraigCat!
